Case Study: 3M and DACHSER – logistics for Brazil

Since last year, DACHSER has been present with a full-coverage service on the Brazilian market through the joint venture “LOGIMASTERS & DACHSER Transportes Nacionais e Internacionais Ltda.” Not least as a result of this joint venture have LOGIMASTERS & DACHSER succeeded in acquiring 3M Brazil as a customer.

3M worldwide
Founded in 1902 in the USA, 3M with its six fields of business is one of the leading providers of multi-technology worldwide. With over 75,000 employees at 132 locations and 189 sales agencies, 3M operates in around 200 different countries.

3M Brazil
At a total of five locations, 3M Brazil has 3,300 employees. 70 percent of the products are actually manufactured in Brazil. Three quarters of the products cover the demand of the Brazilian market.

Local production, worldwide procurement

Coordinated by LOGIMASTERS & DACHSER in São Paulo, the orders from 3M Brazil’s suppliers from the USA, Canada and Europe are consolidated at the Alsdorf (Germany) and Miami (USA) locations. At these two locations, two logistics warehouses have been constructed especially for the consolidation of the goods.

After the goods have been checked and transferred to the logistics warehouse, the information is transmitted to LOGIMASTERS & DACHSER in Brazil as well as to the customer 3M Brazil. Only after clearance by 3M Brazil are the goods forwarded to Brazil with the weekly scheduled consolidated containers especially operated for 3M.

Advantages for 3M Brazil

DACHSER’s full information transparency ensures that customers have access to all important information at all times. Like this, both sides can react as quickly as possible if the requirements change. Goods that are not yet required in Brazil or have not yet been cleared for import are stored temporarily. If required, these can also be directly scheduled ex-supplier. This is, for example, the case if goods are to be sent via air freight directly to the production location.

Consignments can be consolidated directly in the warehouse according to consignee to ensure they arrive punctually in Brazil by air or sea freight. The consolidation of consignments makes DACHSER’s customers more flexible.
