DACHSER celebrates 40 years in Switzerland
From the “Neanderthal on the Sihl Quay” to a modern logistics company
This year, DACHSER’s national company in Switzerland, DACHSER Spedition AG, celebrates its fortieth anniversary.
The company started out in 1967, based in rented offices and a small transshipment warehouse on the Sihl Quay in Zurich. The fact that the warehouse was little more than a dilapidated wooden shed prompted critics to call DACHSER – somewhat maliciously – the “Neanderthal on the Sihl Quay”.
Today, though, DACHSER is one of Switzerland’s leading forwarders, with customers in industries such as metal processing, printed products, construction, chemicals/ pharmaceuticals, mechanical engineering and textiles.
Since 2004, DACHSER’s head office in Switzerland has been in Regensdorf near Zurich. The company established a branch in Basle in 1978, and has been operating a facility in St. Margrethen since 1980.
The opening of a branch in Nyon, which was relocated to Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne in 2003, has given customers improved connections with western Switzerland.
In 1999, DACHSER launched Air & Sea Logistics activities at the airports in Zurich and Geneva, providing links with the global procurement and distribution markets.
In Switzerland, DACHSER enjoys an outstanding reputation as an innovative service provider in both national and international groupage freight services, as well as in intercontinental air and sea freight.
