“Experience logistics live” on DACHSER’s exhibition stand

DACHSER informs and entertains at the German Logistics Congress in Berlin / tesa wins second prize with DACHSER in the German Logistics Prize competition

A visit to the Schönefeld logistics centre and a logistics band drew a large audience

Under the motto “Experience logistics live”, DACHSER showcased itself at the “Logistics Market” of the 24th German Logistics Congress organized in Berlin from 17 to 19 October 2007. At the DACHSER stand, visitors took advantage of the opportunity to inform themselves about the internationally operating logistics provider. A tour through the DACHSER logistics centre opened in Berlin Schönefeld in June also offered hands-on insights into the food logistics business segment. On the evening of the first conference day, DACHSER also displayed its talents as an entertainer. The band “Loaded”, founded by DACHSER staff members, supplied the musical finale at the award ceremony of the German Logistics Prize in the Treptow Arena.

For anyone interested in finding out exactly how modern logistics works in high-density conurbation areas, the tour through DACHSER’s logistics centre in Berlin Schönefeld was just the ticket. Every day, with around 80 arriving and departing tours at precisely timed intervals, the branch connects Europe’s major economic centres with the metropolitan areas of Berlin and Brandenburg. Gerhard Riester, managing director of DACHSER Food Logistics and Stefan Krautwurst-Leister, unit head of DACHSER Food Logistics, welcomed the visitors, who had been driven over from the German Logistics Congress. “The new centre in particular enables us to react to the growing demands of customers in the food logistics segment as well as the handling of European and international consignments,” explained Gerhard Riester on his tour with branch manager Olaf Schmidt of the spacious facility on the 83,000 square-metre site near Schönefeld Airport.

The 2007 German Logistics Prize

tesa AG, a company for which DACHSER provides logistics services, had taken part in the German Logistics Prize competition. And it performed very well indeed: tesa AG’s intelligent and comprehensive logistics solution failed to win the first prize by just a few points, coming an excellent second behind the winner, Claas. DACHSER provides services for tesa AG in the field of transport logistics, especially in distribution in eastern Europe and in contract logistics at the Pilisvörösvar logistics base. We will be informing you in detail about the logistics solution developed by tesa AG and DACHSER in the next issue of our DACHSER news magazine.

2007: Investments in the worldwide branch network

The EUR 22 million investment in Berlin Schönefeld is just one stop on the growth path of national DACHSER locations: Herne, Gersthofen and Rottenburg were extended in 2007 and new branches were established in Hof, Mintraching and most recently Ainring in Bavaria. The “Berchtesgadener-Salzburger Land” logistics centre there is an extension of the Austrian Bergheim branch. The facility, in which DACHSER invested EUR 8 million, has a total area of 20,160 square metres and was recently officially inaugurated.

On the international front, too, new branches have been set up in 2007, among others in Lisbon and Waddinxveen in the Netherlands, as well as in Mouscron, Belgium. In Shanghai, DACHSER invested in a new warehouse and in India six additional locations have been created within the scope of the AFL DACHSER joint venture. Two-and-a-half years after the takeover of the Haugsted group, DACHSER introduced uniform company names in the northern European countries of Denmark, Sweden and Norway in June of this year, thus also outwardly creating a link to the standardized logistics services and modern information logistics of DACHSER’s European network.

Logistics band “Loaded” made things rock

On the very first evening of the conference, the band “Loaded” showed in the Treptow Arena that DACHSER delivers good music, too. The band created “by logistics people for logistics people” really got the place rocking, providing a great musical setting for the award of the 2007 German Logistics Prize. “Our very first rehearsal convinced us all that this band would be real fun,” said guitarist Dr Andreas Froschmayer, the head of Corporate Development/PR and New Media at DACHSER, who founded the band and gave it its name.
