Culture minister presents awards to DACHSER trainees

Two trainees from the DACHSER Langenhagen branch were among the best ten participants in the traditional professional competition organized annually by the DHV trade union. At a reception held at the culture ministry in the northern German state of Lower Saxony, culture minister Heister-Neumann presented awards to the successful trainees.

Jan-Heinrich Kracke and Alexa-Isabelle Schleicher have been taking part in training to become qualified forwarding and logistics services specialists at DACHSER’s Langenhagen branch since September 2006. In February, they both took part in the DHV competition – and performed outstandingly well. In the Lower Saxony section of the competition, in which several thousand trainees took part, they managed to secure top places: Jan-Heinrich Kracke came fifth, while Alexa-Isabelle Schleicher came in tenth.

Lower Saxony’s culture minister, Elisabeth Heister-Neumann, invited the top ten performers to a reception at the ministry, where they received awards for their achievements. She praised the high level of interest in the competition and stressed the important role vocational training plays in finding a job and in future career prospects.

Michael Zdravkovic, manager of DACHSER’s Langenhagen branch, says: “The individual employee is the key success factor when it comes to providing logistics services. And that makes good training absolutely essential.” His colleague in the branch management, Jörg Brinkmann (DACHSER Food Logistics), adds: “The excellent performance of our winners underlines the consistently high quality of the training we provide at DACHSER Langenhagen.”

DACHSER’s Langenhagen branch trains 16 young people each year, and has a trainee ratio of 16%. It offers training which leads to advanced qualifications in forwarding and logistics services, warehouse logistics and specialist warehouse operations.

Background information "The DHV competition"

The DHV trade union has been running its professional competition since 1950. Each year, several thousand commercial trainees in the second and third years of their courses take part, and are required to demonstrate how well they have absorbed the training they have done. Tests are held under examination conditions to identify strengths and weaknesses. Any gaps in knowledge can then be remedied in a systematic way before the final exam.

Training at DACHSER

For DACHSER, one of the keys to success is its high trainee ratio of over 10%. Throughout Germany, the logistics company is currently training almost 1,000 young people to work in ten different vocational fields. In the autumn, 241 young people successfully completed their training with DACHSER. Bernhard Simon, DACHSER’s management spokesman, points out: “Good vocational training is the foundation for later success in working life. As a value-oriented family-owned company, we therefore attach great importance to supporting young people in their careers. We give our trainees intensive support and also demand real performance from them.”
