Guido Westerwelle, leader of the German Liberal party (FDP), was the star speaker at the BWVL dispatch managers' conference.

DACHSER Food Logistics at the BWVL dispatch managers’ conference

With his presentation on the subject of “The ramp as an interface”, Stefan Krautwurst-Leister of DACHSER Food Logistics took part in the 13th German logistics and dispatch managers’ conference organized by the German BWVL industrial association.

More than 200 decision-makers from retailing, industry and logistics had come to Stuttgart to attend the dispatch managers’ conference, which focused on “Solutions for dynamic transport markets – Logistics creates added value”. A number of workshops were held during the one-day event, one of which featured Krautwurst-Leister’s presentation.

As head of the sales division in the Food Logistics department, he explained the process at the ramps of German food retailers from DACHSER’s point of view, and underpinned his comments with details drawn from actual experience and practical examples. His aim was to highlight the differing interests of retailers and food producers and to make clear their logistics processes. Using an analysis of 45,000 stops, he showed that almost half of all goods deliveries in the DACHSER Food Logistics network have to wait for up to 90 minutes before being unloaded at the retailer’s ramp.

He pointed out that this time factor was having a major influence on the cost processes in the transport logistics industry, especially in the context of the new directive on driving times and rest periods. He also explained that this situation could be significantly improved through an active dialogue with retail companies in selected central warehouse regions. Since it has already designed individual distribution concepts for industry and has most recently successfully developed intensive procurement projects with retailers in the network, the DACHSER Food Logistics business segment is in a special position here. It will therefore be continuing its dialogue to optimize processes, including those at the ramp, with all the parties involved.
