DACHSER opens its first Food Logistics branch in Hungary

Since February 2008, DACHSER Food Logistics has been operating a branch of its own in Hungary. The facility is located near the capital city of Budapest, in direct proximity to the new Aldi central warehouse.

The terminal is the first location in Hungary at which DACHSER is now also offering food logistics services. Up to that point, the company had been operating only in the non-food segment through its European Logistics business segment, under the “Liegl & DACHSER” joint venture. The new move now enables DACHSER to offer services in the field of refrigerated and non-temperature-controlled foods.

“The existing network structure gives us a very good starting point in Hungary, and opens up outstanding potential for development,” says Gerhard Riester, managing director of DACHSER Food Logistics. Alongside distribution and procurement transport services, the company can now also offer contract logistics activities, which are especially important in the food segment. DACHSER has rented a 2,000 square-metre warehouse which is run at a temperature of between 2°C and 7°C.

The Hungarian Food Logistics base is connected to the southern German Neufahrn branch via a daily service, giving Hungary access to the entire DACHSER Food Logistics European network. Neufahrn serves as the platform for inbound and outbound groupage consignments.
