Logistics performance can be measured
DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics’ Supply Chain Forum has developed new methods of supply chain measurement and management from the service provider as well as the customer perspective.
The résumé of the event lead managed by Prof. Martin Göbl from Kempten University of Applied Sciences: Logistics is gaining importance within companies. Logistics has an influence on corporate strategy and determines how a product is perceived in the market. That is why logistics systems have to be continuously optimized, monitoring and control systems developed and made transparent for customers.
Similarly, companies need to be able to measure their logistics performance. The Forum participants, who included many top decision-makers from the logistics sector, identified so-called “performance criteria” – KPIs – for evaluating the supply chain. Dr Andreas Froschmayer (division manager Corporate Development & PR at DACHSER) and Prof. Göbl presented their concept for evaluating the logistics balance sheet. This new instrument for measuring logistics performance provides practical examples of the effects of logistics measures and strategies.
Logistics, for example, contributes to a company’s value creation. It is also closely linked to Purchasing, Production and Marketing. In practice, what this means is that in future customers and forwarders should not only present possible logistics improvements in terms of the company’s performance.
The logistics decision-makers among the attending existing and potential DACHSER customers declared the Forum a success and it was possible to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Although the participants came from very different companies, all still see a demand for ways to measure logistics performance and optimize their own logistics processes with the help of an innovative approach. The workshop provided excellent input for this and communicated both the necessary information as well as the readiness to address the topic.
