More than just a goods warehouse

In June 2007, DACHSER set up its Logistics Centre in Shanghai – one year after the opening, the company takes stock.

In the space of just a few months, DACHSER doubled the warehouse space and number of pallet spaces. In the meantime, the high-shelf and block storage warehouse has an area of 6,000 square metres and can hold up to 8,000 pallets. More and more customers are recognizing the optimum contract logistics solutions the warehouse can provide. Inventory management, stocktaking, order picking, quality control, display building, labelling and packing – customers can take advantage of a wide range of value-added services guaranteeing a seamless flow of goods.

One such customer is JOST-Werke GmbH, which has its headquarters in Neu-Isenburg and 17 production sites worldwide. The company, whose product brands include ROCKINGER, REGENSBURGER ZUGGABELN and TRIDEC, is market leader in the production of coupling systems, modules and components for trucks & trailers. JOST is a long-standing business partner of DACHSER. In addition to the logistics solutions provided by DACHSER European Logistics’ Europe-wide overland freight network, JOST also draws on the services of DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics.

JOST’s goods will soon occupy around 1,100 pallet spaces in the warehouse. All movements are controlled via DACHSER’s MIKADO Warehouse Management System and integrate the customer into the logistics chain. JOST uses the warehouse as a buffer store for goods produced by its own production plants in Wuhan and Shanghai as well as external suppliers near Shanghai. Quality controls are carried out as they enter the Logistics Centre and not only after reaching the customer in Europe. DACHSER dispatches the products via “Buyers Consolidation Services” to JOST branches across Europe.

“We were looking for a logistics services provider who could offer us exactly the same quality and professionalism from China as we are used to in Europe,” says Thomas Garlich, Head of International Logistics at JOST in Neu-Isenburg. “As a tradition-conscious and yet cosmopolitan and innovative family-owned company, DACHSER fits the bill perfectly.” The cooperation with JOST is an excellent example of the modern logistics solutions DACHSER provides in the Shanghai industrial belt.

“In addition to advanced goods handling, DACHSER’s high safety and security standards and the direct proximity to air and seaports are clear advantages for the customer,” adds Andreas Ment, who supports JOST on behalf of DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics and initiated the successful overall implementation of the project.

DACHSER is represented at 15 locations in Greater China and employs more than 600 people in the region.
