The new Hegau-Bodensee logistics centre near Steißlingen

From Singen to Steißlingen – Expansion at Lake Constance

DACHSER is expanding its presence at Lake Constance: the Singen branch is expanding and relocating to the neighbouring municipality of Steißlingen. Together with its branches in Baindt and Rottenburg, DACHSER offers warehouse space in South-West Germany with a capacity of almost 74,000 pallet spaces.

After more than 15 years of steady tonnage growth, DACHSER’s forwarding facility in Singen had reached the limits of its capacities, so the new Hegau-Bodensee logistics centre was built just four kilometres away in the municipality of Steißlingen. On a 96,000-square-metre site on the Steißling Hard-Süd industrial estate, DACHSER has invested 21 million euros in the construction of a new terminal. DACHSER employs a staff of 220 in Steißlingen.

Covering an area of 10,500 square metres, the branch is divided between transshipment for industrial dry goods (7,500 square metres) and temperature-controlled foodstuffs (1,500 square metres) as well as warehousing for temperature-controlled foodstuffs (1,500 square metres).

Plenty of space and ideal conditions – also for foodstuffs

At 1,500 square metres, the temperature-controlled food transshipment area has almost quadrupled. The chilled halls feature electrically powered sectional doors that close down to the level of the forecourt and inflatable door seals. Introduced at DACHSER Food Logistics in 2005, this technology currently sets standards industry-wide when it comes to energy efficiency and hygiene in the loading and unloading areas. The eco-friendly refrigeration technology, which is monitored online 24 hours a day, is an important component in the uninterrupted refrigeration chain from consignor to consignee at DACHSER and an essential prerequisite for quality management certified in compliance with DIN ISO 9001 and IFS Logistic.

The direct link to the A81 motorway, the proximity to the Swiss border, its own border offices at the Constance/Kreuzlingen and Bietingen/Thayngen border crossings and the competent, cooperative collaboration with border customs offices underscore the branch’s outstanding logistics competence in the freight transport of industrial goods and temperature-controlled foodstuffs from and to Switzerland and the rest of Europe.
