Europe’s biggest pencil on tour for children

The “It’s a colourful world” tour organized by pencil and crayon manufacturer Faber-Castell and its cooperation partner DACHSER has set itself the goal to promote children’s intellectual development through creative activities. The pencil tour starts on 30 May and will visit eleven cities in Germany and Scandinavia.

The campaign offers a diversified programme for children between the ages of three and eleven: A semi-trailer truck provided by the logistics partner DACHSER will drive through Germany and Scandinavia transporting a 12.5-metre-long giant pencil weighing approx. one tonne. It will cover over 1,600 kilometres altogether. At eleven stops along the way, events will be held that are designed to playfully stimulate children’s creativity and provide their parents or teachers with ideas for promoting young people of different age groups. At creative workshops held during the tour, the biggest book of children’s art in the world will thus be produced in eleven volumes. The grand finale of the tour will be celebrated with a big party in Oslo: one of the highlights will be the presentation of the children’s art books from the eleven cities to the International Children’s Art Museum in the Norwegian capital.

Entrance to the “It’s a colourful world” tour is free.
Nursery school groups, school classes and families can register by calling Tel. +49 (0)711-870356-66 (contact: Marc Paul). The programme for groups lasts one to one-and-a-half hours. Please be aware that the entry into the Europa Park Rust, Movie Park Bottrop und Danfoss Universe Center (DK) is not free.

What is the rationale behind the “It’s a colourful world” tour?

The giant pencil tour hopes to motivate children to give their creativity free rein. It has been proved that children who regularly work with pencils and crayons are better able to express more complex thoughts than their contemporaries. The reason for this is that writing, drawing, colouring and craft activities stimulate the development of neuronal activity in the brain – increasing the capacity to learn and assimilate. In Faber-Castell and DACHSER, two internationally active family-owned companies are involved which both draw on a similar set of values and put people first. Bernhard Simon, spokesman for the DACHSER management, explains: “It is our responsibility to give subsequent generations the room they need to develop their full creativity. Appropriate fostering of children’s ability to think independently is the foundation for our shared future in this colourful world.”
