Cargoplus goes international
In 2006, DACHSER launched a new service segment. Under the name Cargoplus, specially established facilities provide a range of services to complement those offered by the groupage network. Following a three-year rollout phase in Germany, DACHSER is now extending the Cargoplus segment to other European countries.
The core Cargoplus services encompass both European partial and full load services for major customers as well as individual solutions for special markets such as the CIS states and Maghreb countries. Cargoplus thus complements the logistics provider’s services portfolio and at the same time develops new market potential.
In May of this year, Sweden was the first country to launch Cargoplus operations from its Norrköpping facility. In a next step, the Netherlands will follow in a few weeks’ time, and additional countries in the near future.
Since the startup in January 2006, Cargoplus has quickly positioned itself in the market. DACHSER Cargoplus Germany in the meantime not only enjoys an excellent reputation among contracting companies for its transport services to the CIS states. In the course of 2008, activities were extended to the Maghreb countries. From the Memmingen platform, weekly consolidated freight departures are scheduled to Tunisia and Morocco. Shipments to Algeria are handled via the platform in Marseilles.
In 2008, the new segment generated revenue of EUR 20 million. Despite a difficult economic environment, Cargoplus also developed well during the first four months of this year and achieved a 16 percent growth in revenue and a 31 percent rise in the volume of shipments.
