Logistics for gourmets
In addition to chilled foodstuffs, DACHSER Food Logistics is increasingly required to store and transport products that are not temperature-controlled. These include high-value luxury foodstuffs such as coffee, wine, spirits and confectionery from suppliers of branded goods.
Since DACHSER’s food business segment declared the wine and spirits industry to be a focus in 1999, well-known companies like Pernod Ricard, Campari, Verpoorten and Bacardi have awarded the company their tenders for the transport of their goods. Recently, two new renowned manufacturers have been added in the field of contract logistics.
Since May, DACHSER in Hamburg has operated a warehouse with around 9,000 pallet spaces for the Hamburg wine and spirits producer Borco Marken-Import. Over 30,000 tonnes of hard liquor, including Fernet-Branca, De Kuyper and Sierra Tequila, finds its way from here to retailers’ shelves in Germany and various other European countries. The logistics provider also handles international pre-carriage of full loads.
In March 2009, the leading manufacturer of luxury spirits, Moët Hennessy, also entrusted responsibility for its logistics operations in Germany to DACHSER. At its new logistics centre in Nuremberg, the logistics provider stores around 4,000 pallets of top-quality champagne of the brands Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon and Veuve Clicquot, as well as cognac, whisky, vodka and wine for the subsidiary of the world’s biggest luxury goods group, Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH). The assigned tasks in the seasonally fluctuating classic warehousing and transport operations also include supplementary services such as display building and supplying events. LVMH is the 5,000th DACHSER customer to utilize the EDI electronic data interchange system.
